My apologies for a terrible picture! Someday soon, I’m going to remake this smoothie and take better pictures. Until then, don’t let the looks of this smoothie scare you off. 😉
I’ve been making this breakfast once a week now for the past two weeks and I am loving it. You will too. It’s so easy to make when I’m running late and still have to get dressed, put my face on, and prep my lunch.
I don’t have to think about what I’m doing – literally. I just start throwing random fruits and veggies in the blender and wait with bated breath to see what color my smoothie will be this time around. It is exciting. And it’s hard for me to be excited at 7 a.m.
Garbage Smoothie
Ingredients
2 cups spinach
1 cup pineapple
1 small Granny Smith apple
3 small whole carrots, peeled and cut
1 banana
1 cup organic low-fat yogurt (I usually only have Stonyfield on hand but you can use plain Greek yogurt or whatever else you might have)
1/2 cup blueberries
3/4 cup orange juice (or fruit juice if you’re out)
1 scoop (about 3 oz.) of protein powder, soy or whey
Several cubes of ice
Directions
1. Pour half of the orange juice into blender.
2. Start layering the veggies and fruits, alternating layers with yogurt and the remainder of the orange juice.
3. Make sure the lid is on tight and blend on high speed until completely mixed. Depending on the consistency and your preference, you might need to add a bit more liquid (water works fine, too) if it’s too thick. If the smoothie is too runny (which probably won’t happen), you can always add more ice or more veggies/fruits/yogurt to thicken.
Enjoy a healthy, filling, and quick breakfast!
