discipline (noun) activity, exercise or a regimen that develops or improves a skill
When I was in high school, I participated in several different sports and extracurricular activities. I think back and wonder how I was able to manage everything, adding in the fact that my parents drove me everywhere since I didn’t have a car. The only way I managed was to have a daily regimen – knowing where I had to be at a certain time, thinking ahead about what food and extra clothes I had to pack, and so forth. Needless to say, I learned early on in my life about having discipline.
With running, having discipline is essential and that motivates me to want to run. Having a routine (for example, following a training plan) is something which makes me thrive. To have an effective routine, you need to have discipline to follow it. When I wake up in the early morning while most everyone is still sleeping and go for a run, I do it because I have learned about having discipline. Discipline is rewarding and having it makes running that much better for me.
This is why I run.
