this is why i run: self esteem // day 24

I never had the body of a runner. You know the type – lean build and muscular quads and calves. Of course, I know that while these things aren’t necessary to be a runner, I do know that it can be helpful.
Running makes me feel good, regardless of my physique. When my heart rate increases, I feel alive. When I start breaking a sweat, I feel like I’m making my body work hard. When my lungs start burning and muscles ache, I feel invincible.

If I’m being honest with myself, I will never have that desirable runner’s build. God just didn’t make me that way and I have accepted that truth. What I do have, is a yearning to always strive for being confident and comfortable in my own skin. By running, I get that fulfillment. My self esteem gets a major boost, knowing that I’m healthy and fit because I choose to run.

This is why I run.

*This post is a part of a 31 Day Writing Challenge in which I celebrate all the reasons I run. You can find links to all the posts here.
