From Puerto Rico to Israel and other places in between, I have been fortunate enough in my lifetime to have traveled to a lot of amazing places. I love that I can explore new cities and countries by running while I’m there. Now, I don’t always get an opportunity to run on every travel venture but just knowing that I can run while visiting a new place is one reason why I love this sport.
Another aspect of travel and running is that you can solely plan vacations (or weekend trips) around a race that takes place at your destination. It can be a few cities away or in a completely different country and continent. For example, if I wanted to run the New York Marathon (rather, if I won the race entry lottery) then we could plan a long weekend vacation to also pack in other things to do while at the Big Apple, especially since I have never been to the city. The same could be said of traveling to another country, like Asia for the Great Wall Marathon – how awesome would that be?!
Running while traveling, no matter where I find myself, is one of my favorite ways to explore new places. Whether that be the beach or mountains, in this continent or another far away place, I’m just grateful that I can lace up my shoes and run somewhere new.
This is why I run.
