summer vacation: Florida

This year, for our summer vacation we decided to visit Florida. For anyone who doesn’t already know, I love the beach so any vacation that revolves around it is going to be fantastic. As a bonus, our family (my side, if we’re being technical) lives there and of course have a few friends living there as well. Finally, it was K’s first time visiting and he would be meeting one of his great-grandmothers for the first time. I’m pretty sure he had a blast. We all did.

This little island we stayed at part of the time has the cutest homes and boats. We went to the playground once (with a heat index of 103*F!) and spent the rest of the time hanging out, eating great home cooked meals, sipping wine and doing Pilates. Everything in moderation, right?

^^^^Dream house, right there.

My husband and I had a much needed date night (thanks Mom for babysitting!) and met up with some friends to eat at our favorite Italian restaurant. I ate the grilled grouper over risotto and topped it off with a cheesecake, which I thankfully shared with my husband.

After a few days on the island, we headed out to stay on the beach. This is the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, which I always love driving over.

We found the cutest condo on Bradenton Beach, a block from the sand and waves. I completely forgot to snap pictures of the inside but it was newly remodeled and had this amazing rooftop deck, as seen below.

These sunset photos were taken from the rooftop deck.

and a storm inland.

The rest of the pictures are of the beach and a certain toddler, surely not surprising.

Even though I grew up with these beaches nearby, I just cannot get over how blue and clear the water is. I certainly have a bigger appreciation for the beach now that we live farther away.

Despite this face, K had such a great time. Seriously, he would not stop running toward the water and loved splashing around. He also ate sand for the first time, so that was hilarious.

(Pot belly alert.)

One day, he became rather fixated on walking to the sea turtle nesting area (you can see it staked off in the background) over and over again. I just love those chunky legs and sandy lil’ bum.

A few more of the water, just because it never gets old.

We had such a great time and of course, even though it’s nice to be home again, are already missing the sand and water between our toes.

And a huge thanks to our family for letting us crash their homes and eat their food!
