Learn, Absorb & Praise: a children’s book collection

Do any parents out there of toddlers find themselves getting bored of reading the same books over and over and over again? Maybe it’s just me, but I have my fair share of books memorized and if I skip a word or a page, my toddler is going to adamantly let me know about it. He doesn’t miss a beat.

When it’s time for some new books to be added to the rotation, I like to think outside the box. Sure, Dr. Seuss and Eric Carle always are fun books to add but sometimes I like to get something with a bit more teaching behind it. You know, fun books that also teach our son a lesson. That’s where these three books fit right in.

Last year, I had the privilege of reviewing a few children’s books and I’m happy to report that they’re definitely still going strong in our household. Now, I’m glad to have this new set of books to read with our son since they teach other lessons we haven’t seen yet and also gives us some fresh reading material.

This three book collection comes in a wrapped gift set, which actually doubles as a fun kids activity. It’s a bit too old for our son right now at his age but if you have older toddlers and children, it’s the perfect activity. The inside part of the wrapping includes tools called “The Art of Gratitude” to help kids practice gratitude. There are tips for giving thanks and why people do it. There’s even a self mailing note for your child to color and embellish, along with keepsake bookmarks which again can be colored and doodled on.

The first book in this collection falls under the ‘LEARN’ category and teaches children to know the heart & mind of Jesus. The red book pictured below, “Jesus Shows Me”, is this book. We already own another book in this series and it’s one of my favorites because of how many teachable moments are found throughout the book.

The second book falls under the ‘ABSORB’ category and teaches children about seeing how God works in their inner lives. This book is called “All of Me That You Can’t See” and it’s a cute story about a little boy who discovers how his inner self grows along with Jesus, as he also physically grows. The illustrations in this book are whimsical and our son really loves pointing out and saying the names of different objects he recognizes.

The third book falls under the ‘PRAISE’ category, which teaches children to remember and praise God in everything that they do. This book is called “Mud Puddle Hunting Day” and is the story of a little girl who explores God’s creation by dashing through the rain and hunting for mud puddles. It also has really cute and whimsical illustrations, which our son loves looking at especially the “buud!” <= birds.

We’ve had a great time reading these 3 new books to our son and can tell he also enjoys having something new to read. Like I’ve said before, the best part about having these books is that they’re different than other ones we have and teach our son about Jesus but do it in such a way that it’s on his level so that as he continues growing, he will be able to understand the lessons more.
